Milan's Forma exhibition area hosts a big retrospective of one of the greatest photographers of the twentieth century, Robert Mapplethorpe, who died in 1989. The exhibition, open until April 9, 2012, retraces the most meaningful steps of his artistic career through 178 pictures, including his beautiful and provocative male nudes, his portraits of Warhol and Patti Smith, flowers, but also his first polaroids of the 70's, not so well-known by the wider public. Our microphones reached Eric R Johnson from the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation ( who told us about the American photographer's zealous search for perfection and his obsession for the the myth of beauty.
